Hansavest Training Centre passes on industrial skills and knowledge

The Hansavest Training Centre in Pärnu has made it its mission to raise the profile of industrial trades. Helping foreign workers adapt to the Nordic way of doing things, both at work and in their free time, is also an important part of the training. In addition to welding, the training centre teaches CNC machining and pipe insulation.

Hansavest’s service includes finding agency workers for production companies, personal support and training.

The students' general skills and 3D perception are tested first, after which they complete a practical work assignment at the Training Centre. Based on the tests, personal training plans are drawn up so that the students' skills match the client’s requirements.

Training Centre director Kristjan Rähn speaks from experience: “Our learning outcomes are effective – practical training makes up 80% of the course. Training designed together with client companies is most successful when it is based on the company’s real needs.”

Hansavest is committed to continuous development, and its instructors enjoy teaching there.

The teaching covers occupational safety, efficient use of materials in metalwork and quality control. The training equipment includes MMA, TIG and MIG/MAG welding machines, a CNC machining centre, and Haas, Fanuc and ABB training equipment.

Last year, training for pipe insulators was also launched: students get to hone their sheet-metal skills and learn Armacell insulation.

Three trainees who came to Pärnu to study in spring 2023 say they greatly appreciate the Nordic nature, the clean air and the peaceful way of life. An Indian student who has previously worked in Europe values the smooth adjustment and the high-quality training at the Training Centre. Another student, who came to improve his TIG welding skills, is looking forward to starting work and earning a decent wage so that he can help his family in India. A welder from Uzbekistan highlights the special expertise and language skills of Hansavest’s instructors.

Instructor Egon Marder stresses: “Logical thinking and planning skills are essential requirements in the fields we teach. We encourage students to ask again so that they understand the task correctly and do quality work.”

People with initiative and creativity who can analyse and solve problems succeed in acquiring the necessary working skills, a solid practical foundation and greater self-confidence to fit into the working environment.

Over time, nearly a thousand students have improved their skills at the Hansavest Training Centre. The Training Centre also organises study days for hobby welders and information days for anyone interested. On a recent study visit, local schoolchildren concluded that studying mathematics carefully can lead to an interesting and rewarding career in industry as adults.

The Hansavest Training Centre is a training card partner of the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund (Eesti Töötukassa), and the assessment of students' skill levels is supplemented in cooperation with AI & Robotics Estonia and the Federation of Estonian Engineering Industry (Eesti Masinatööstuse Liit). We also cooperate with several educational institutions in many countries, for example the welding schools in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and Almaty (Kazakhstan).

Flexible teaching takes place all year round, and courses last from a few weeks to a couple of months. Supporting industrial demand and the competitiveness of companies, the Hansavest Training Centre follows its values in training qualified workers: openness, willingness to cooperate, purposefulness, practicality and high quality.
