Most of the workers placed by Hansavest come from Ukraine, Latvia and elsewhere in Eastern Europe. The most common concerns when foreign workers are joining a company
The worker is not suited to the job
Hansavest guarantees that the training and work experience of the workers we supply match the specific needs of the industry and the workplace, as well as the client's order. Hansavest's recruiters assess every candidate through a range of tests, interviews and practical work assignments. In addition to professional skills, Hansavest ensures that the workers are ready to work abroad. Our recruiters make their selection decisions with your company's needs and the worker's qualities particularly in mind. If, despite this, a worker is for some reason not suited to the client's working environment, we will replace them with a person better suited to that environment.
Possible culture shock
When a foreign worker joins a company, it is easy to assume that culture shock, and with it conflict in the workplace, is inevitable. Fortunately, this can be addressed with very simple measures. At Hansavest, we provide information and training on Finnish working life and culture in advance. We recommend that our client companies do the same, the other way round. In other words, it is a good idea to tell your employees in advance that a foreign worker will be joining the team, and to encourage everyone to approach the situation with an open mind and welcome them as a member of the work community. This reduces potential friction right from the start and motivates both existing employees and newcomers.
Possible language barrier and communication
At Hansavest, our workers use Finnish or English as their working language. Experience has shown us that fears of a language barrier and communication problems are usually unfounded. Almost every Finnish company has employees who speak English and are happy to help with any language challenges.
Foreigners are coming to take our jobs?
Claims and fears like this are heard from time to time. Agency workers are most often used to fill a resource gap, which may be due to a temporary increase in orders or a shortage of trained workers in the company's area. When workforce resources can be balanced according to need, the company can also serve its own customers better. This in turn improves the situation of all employees, as sales and production can grow without fear of a shortage of skilled labour. Staffing is a good solution to an increased need for workers, both temporarily and in the longer term.
What kind of workers can I find through Hansavest?
Through Hansavest you can find specialised skilled and industrial workers, mainly for production and logistics companies. The main industries we supply workers to are the metal, wood, electronics and food industries. Hansavest specialises mainly in three areas:
- Staffing for metalwork – experienced welders, CNC machinists and other metal industry professionals and specialists.
- Staffing for industrial and skilled work – industrial and skilled workers with previous experience for various production sectors.
- Staffing for warehouse logistics – workers with a systematic approach for order picking in warehouses and logistics centres.
Which countries do the agency workers come from?
Hansavest supplies metal, industrial and skilled workers, as well as warehouse and logistics workers, most often from Latvia, Ukraine and Estonia.
When does the worker start work?
Over the years, Hansavest has gathered data on many different workers. Most commonly, it takes from a couple of weeks to a month for a worker to start work.
What skills do workers from abroad have?
Hansavest guarantees that the training and work experience of the workers we supply match the specific needs of the industry and the workplace. Hansavest's staff assess all candidates through tests, interviews and practical work assignments. The skill level of the workers we place and their readiness to work abroad are verified. The selection decision is made by a Hansavest employee with your company's needs and the worker's skills particularly in mind.
What are the risks for my company if a worker does not meet expectations?
Hansavest's staff thoroughly identify your company's specific needs and requirements for the worker in advance and carry out a thorough selection process. If it still happens that an agency worker is not competent in their job or does not fit in with the company, Hansavest will replace the worker as soon as possible. Cases of unqualified workers have been rare since Hansavest was founded in 2005.
The main fears when hiring a foreign national
The worker does not succeed in the job
All workers placed through Hansavest complete vocational tests and assessments, and a personal interview is held to establish the worker's competence and suitability. If a situation should nevertheless arise in which a worker does not succeed in the job, it poses no risk whatsoever to your company. An unsuitable worker is replaced as soon as possible. Cases of unqualified workers have been rare during Hansavest's many years of operation.
Culture shock
A new foreign worker comes from a different culture, expects their cultural characteristics to be respected and may experience culture shock. Experience has shown that if a new worker is treated well, they are also motivated to do good work and adapt quickly.
Communication barrier
The workers placed through Hansavest communicate at work in Finnish or English. Experience shows that the communication barrier is more of an anticipated fear, and in reality it often turns into pleasant language practice for the company's own employees too.
Fear of foreign workers
Your employees may be alarmed that people from another country are coming to work at the company. The experience of Hansavest's staff shows that 95% of companies have had positive experiences. In fact, a new foreign worker comes to help your company during busy periods, so that you can allocate your workforce according to need. Staffing is a good solution to your company's increased workforce needs, and it also makes it possible to offer more secure jobs to local employees.
How does staffing benefit my company?
